„The Ballad of John and Yoko“ is a song by the Beatles and one of my favourites. The song that was released as a non-album single in May 1969 (together with Paul Harrison’s „Old Brown Shoe“). It was mainly written by John Lennon but credited to the Lennon/McCartney partnership, and chronicles the events surrounding the wedding of John Lennon and Yoko Ono.
John Lennon describes the events of the couple’s wedding, in March 1969, and highly publicised honeymoon activities, including their „Bed-In“ at the Amsterdam Hilton Hotel and their demonstration of „bagism“ in Vienna.
John Lennon and Paul McCartney recorded the song on 14th of April 1969 without their bandmates George Harrison and Ringo Starr. John Lennon played the rhythm- and lead-guitar and sung whereas Paul McCartney did the background singing and played the remaining instruments like bass, piano, maracas and the drum kit. It is said that the entire song was recorded only in 7 hours…

Das Stück wurde überwiegend von John Lennon allein geschrieben, auch wenn es dem Copyright Lennon/McCartney zugeordnet wurde. Der Song wurde im Mai 1969 zusammen mit der Paul-Harrison-Komposition „Old Brown Shoe“ als Single veröffentlicht.
John Lennon beschreibt in diesem Lied die Schwierigkeiten mit Presse und Behörden, die er hatte, als er Yoko Ono heiraten wollte. Darüber hinaus werden in dem Lied das berühmt gewordene „Bed-In“ in Amsterdam und das „Bag-In“ in Wien angesprochen, die John Lennon und Yoko Ono im Frühjahr 1969 nach ihrer Hochzeit abgehalten haben.
Bei der Aufnahme The Ballad of John and Yoko am 14. April 1969 in den Londoner Abbey Road Studios (Studio 3) waren nur zwei der vier Beatles beteiligt, John Lennon und Paul McCartney. John Lennon spielte Rhythmus- und Lead-Gitarre und sang, während Paul McCartney die zweite Stimme und alle restlichen Instrumente übernahm, also Bass, Klavier, Maracas und das Schlagzeug. Angeblich wurde der Song in nur 7 Stunden aufgenommen…
