Das Stück besteht aus drei Teilen die fortschreitend Tempo und Lautstärke erhöhen… Es beginnt mit einem langsamen Tempe gespielt mit akustischen Instrumenten bevor die elektronischen Instrumente genutzt werden. DAs Schlagzeug beginnt erst am dem 83.ten Takt.
Der letzte Teil des Liedes ist ein schneller Hard-Rock-Teil in dem das Gitarrensolo von Jimmy Page und der Gesang von Robert Plant herausragen. Der Teil ended mit der Capella-Zeile „And she’s buying a stairway to heaven“.
Auch Jon Bonham zeigt im dritten Teil des Stückes sein Talent als außergewöhnlicher Schlagzeuger in dem er seine nun berühmten „Bonham-Triplets“ spielt…
